Dog Friendly Vacations Utah – You won’t find it on any national or state park lists, but Flaming Gorge is one of the most dog-friendly destinations in Utah filled with outdoor activities.
Located south and east of Salt Lake City in the corner of the state where Utah, Wyoming and Colorado meet, Blaze National Recreation Area has everything an outdoor enthusiast could dream of. The centerpiece of the area is Flaming Creek Reservoir, but there is also a river, alpine hiking, mountain biking and amazing sights to see.
Dog Friendly Vacations Utah
Flaming Gorge is designated a National Recreation Area and most of the surrounding area is a national forest, the Ashley National Forest. Dogs are welcome at both locations if they follow some rules. The basic rule is that dogs must be kept on a 6-foot leash and under the owner’s supervision at all times. Other than that, the rules are pretty much the same anywhere you take your dog – clean up after them and be responsible and respectful of the area and others who use it. No matter where you travel, always follow Leave No Trace rules.
Visiting Bryce Canyon National Park With A Dog
The lake is huge. Flaming Gorge Reservoir can be divided into two parts depending on the nearest cities: the Manila side and the Dutch John side. The Manila side is flatter and has a more desert landscape.
The Dutch John side is more hilly with dramatic red rocks. On this side you will see one of the most famous places, which is the Red Valley. Don’t miss it, it’s incredibly beautiful.
There is plenty of room for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and boating on the lake. Mustang is the most popular area for water activities. There is also a campground at Mustang Ridge, making it very easy for you and your dog to enjoy the lake. At Dutch John, you can rent kayaks, paddleboards, and more from Dutch John Resort or Trout Creek Flies.
If you want to get out on the water, you can rent motor boats at Lucerne Marina and Cedar Springs Marina, depending on which side of the lake you are on.
Your Ultimate Guide To Dog Friendly Moab, Utah
The sources of the Green River are located on the Dutch side of the lake. The Green River is one of the best places in the world to fish…yes, it’s world-class. You can take your dog along the river for a walk or a boat trip.
If fishing isn’t your thing, you can go rafting or hiking on the 7-mile trail that follows the river. Green River rafting is very gentle and suitable for beginners and dogs. You can rent rafts at the places mentioned above.
The hiking trails are beautiful and fairly easy, but if you plan on going out and back, it’s 14 miles. Many people choose to walk a few kilometers and then come back.
All hiking trails in the area are dog friendly, just keep your dog on a leash.

Finally, if you’re looking for more, check out the Greendale/Sweat Ranch episode. It is 5.8 miles and doesn’t offer a lot of shade, so be sure to bring plenty of water to keep you and your pup hydrated in the heat.
